Giant Buddha Images, Bamiyan Valley. Built in the 5th or 6th century, destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. The Bamiyan Valley was a Buddhist monastic site until the Moslems invaded in the 9th century AD and defaced almost all of the artwork.
